Amongst the rolling hills of Boquete, Panama, lies the resplendent Lerida Coffee Estate. An embodiment of a coffee lover's paradise, this plantation has roots deeply entrenched in the rich tapestry of Panama's coffee history, with its first revered export of Panamanian coffee to Germany taking place as far back as 1929.
This illustrious estate is now under the meticulous care of the Amoruso Family, who have kept the legacy of Finca Lérida alive while infusing it with their unique touch. Visitors to this coffee sanctuary not only experience an unforgettable journey through the world of coffee but also have the exclusive opportunity to reside in a boutique hotel nestled in the heart of the plantation. It's a rare invitation to be entirely enveloped by the rhythms and routines of coffee cultivation.
Finca Lérida's reputation precedes itself, its fame echoing the momentous event when the first shipment of Panamanian coffee set sail for Germany nearly a century ago. In 1924, engineer Toleff Bache Mönniche, alongside his wife, established their life at Finca Lerida. Here, they crafted a charming dwelling, every inch constructed by hand, resonating with the distinct aesthetic of Norwegian countryside architecture.
Beyond creating a quaint abode, Mönniche conceptualized and brought to life Panama's first gravity-fed coffee plantation. This pioneering effort was a testament to his engineering acumen and a profound appreciation for the art of coffee cultivation. His innovative methods continue to inspire the estate's practices, furthering its illustrious legacy.
Our journey through Finca Lerida offered us an immersive dive into a historical narrative rich with passion, ingenuity, and an unwavering commitment to coffee. We were left spellbound by the fusion of past innovation and present dedication that characterizes this remarkable estate. It serves as a stirring reminder of how the love for coffee transcends time, and how its cultivation can become a cherished heritage passed down through generations.
