Geisha coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia, where it grows wild in the forests. It was brought to Panama in the 1960s, but it remained unnoticed until 2004, when Hacienda la Esmeralda, a family-owned company that produces specialty coffee in the highlands of Boquete, realized its potential and started to cultivate it. Since then, Hacienda la Esmeralda has been producing some of the finest Geisha coffee in the world, winning several awards and setting world auction records for price.
Their Geisha coffee is grown in high-elevation micro-climates that enhance its flavor and quality. Geisha coffee has a distinctive floral and fruity aroma and a complex and delicate flavor that is often described as tea-like, jasmine, bergamot, honey, or citrus. It also has a high citric acidity, a bold cup, and a juicy body.
