About this Specialty Coffee
This innovative blend was developed entirely by Ninety Plus. Ninety Plus is a company that owns several coffee farm estates near the Barú volcano in Panama. These lush jungles benefit from the soil being superior due to the historical eruptions by the volcano. These estates contain waterfalls, wildlife, lush jungles, etc. It is the only place in the world where you can find their varieties of ethiopian heirloom beans being grown under a full forest canopy. The native Ngäbe-Buglé people are heavily involved in the estates, working in various fields such as production and tourism, while celebrating their culture and maintaining a connection to the land that is historically theirs.
Drima Zede was first developed by Ninety Plus in Ethiopia in 2013 in a successful effort to improve the flavor of common coffee varieties through deeper fermentation. This processing formula is now applied to the caturra variety in Panama to create a rich and voluptuous cup, reminiscent of great Shiraz wine.
The Caturra variety is an offshoot of the bourbon variety. It was discovered in Brazil between 1915 and 1918 and it eventually reached Central America. It became very popular there as the mutation that differentiates the two varieties causes the Caturra plants to be much smaller, making it extremely useful for small farmers in places like Nicaragua who need to have as many plants in as little space possible in order to maximize their yield and profits.
