In the lush, verdant landscapes of Ecuador, nestled amidst the rich biodiversity of the region, lies Hacienda La Florida - a coffee farm that has captured our hearts and palates at The Espresso Lab. Our journey with the Coronel Pilco family, the visionaries behind this exceptional farm, began several years ago, and it's a partnership we cherish deeply for its alignment with our core values of quality, innovation, and sustainability.
The story of Hacienda La Florida is one of perseverance and passion, mirroring our own journey in the specialty coffee world. In 2015, brothers Fabricio and Ramiro Coronel Pilco embarked on their coffee-growing adventure with Catucai, a variety chosen more for its hardiness than its flavor profile. It was a humble beginning, but one that laid the foundation for what was to come.
As we at The Espresso Lab have learned through our years in the industry, true excellence requires both knowledge and the willingness to evolve. The Coronel Pilco family embodied this spirit perfectly. Recognizing the complexities of the specialty coffee market, they invested in processing equipment to fully unlock the potential of their terroir. This commitment to quality and continuous improvement is what initially drew us to Hacienda La Florida and has kept our partnership strong over the years.
In 2017, Hacienda La Florida took a bold step forward by planting Typica Mejorado and Bourbon Sidra varieties. These cultivars have flourished under the farm's innovative agroforestry system, producing coffees with exceptional cup profiles that we're proud to showcase at The Espresso Lab. The harmonious blend of rich soil, unique microclimate, and carefully selected varieties results in a coffee that truly embodies the essence of its origin.
What sets Hacienda La Florida apart, and what resonates so deeply with our ethos at The Espresso Lab, is their unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. The Coronel Pilco family's dedication to sustainable farming practices - from water conservation to the use of natural fertilizers - mirrors our own commitment to reducing our environmental impact. It's a reminder that great coffee doesn't have to come at the expense of our planet.
As we continue to feature Hacienda La Florida's coffees at The Espresso Lab, we're not just serving exceptional beverages; we're sharing a story of resilience, innovation, and profound respect for the land. Each cup is a testament to the Coronel Pilco family's journey - from their early days of experimentation to their current status as producers of award-winning coffees.
Our partnership with Hacienda La Florida goes beyond mere business; it's a shared vision for the future of specialty coffee. Together, we're working towards a world where exceptional quality goes hand in hand with environmental preservation and sustainable practices. When you enjoy a cup of Hacienda La Florida coffee at The Espresso Lab, you're not just tasting some of Ecuador's finest; you're participating in a movement towards a more sustainable and delicious coffee future.
