How The Espresso Lab Journey Began
Ibrahim Al Mallouhi, founder of The Espresso Lab, traces his passion for coffee back to his childhood days spent beside his grandmother, who roasted Arabic coffee with meticulous precision. From learning the subtle art of roasting to identifying distinct coffee notes, his early experiences were steeped in tradition and fueled his growing love for coffee.
Al Mallouhi's appreciation for Arabic coffee evolved over time as Dubai witnessed a surge of new coffee chains, but none matched the depth and authenticity he sought. In 2010, a pivotal moment occurred in New York when he discovered a small specialty coffee shop renowned for its remarkable flavors. This encounter sparked a lifelong pursuit of specialty coffee.
Driven by curiosity, Al Mallouhi embarked on a five-year journey, visiting coffee shops worldwide and immersing himself in their distinct flavors and experiences. This quest led him to formal training at Bellissimo Coffee Advisors in Oregon, where he earned a coffee diploma and became a certified barista. His exploration also took him to Vietnam and Ethiopia, where he connected with farmers to understand the essence of coffee production from ground to cup.
Determined to build a thriving business, Al Mallouhi obtained an executive MBA from CASS Business School in London and crafted a clear vision and strategy for what would become The Espresso Lab. With a registered name, logo, and a deep-rooted passion, The Espresso Lab was born, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of specialty coffee in Dubai and beyond.
