About this Specialty Coffee
In the verdant highlands of Panama's Boquete region, Abu Coffee has emerged as a remarkable new force in the specialty coffee landscape. The Espresso Lab has been closely following this young farm's meteoric rise since its inception, recognizing a kindred spirit in their unwavering pursuit of excellence. Despite having just six years of production experience, Abu Coffee has secured a distinguished position among Panama's elite coffee producers, particularly for their outstanding Geisha offerings that The Espresso Lab is proud to feature in our curated selection.
Named in honor of founder José Guillermo Luttrell Tedman's grandfather, Abu Coffee benefits from the exceptional microclimate of the Canas Verdes region, which imparts distinctive characteristics to their beans. Since their impressive debut at the 2017 Best of Panama Competition, where they captured sixth place with a 91.52-point Geisha Washed, Abu Coffee has consistently demonstrated their commitment to quality, placing well in subsequent competitions with both their Geisha and Catuai varieties. The Espresso Lab values this dedication to continuous improvement, which mirrors our own philosophy of never settling for anything less than exceptional.
What particularly resonates with The Espresso Lab's approach is Abu Coffee's innovative spirit. Their experimentation with processing methods, including anaerobic natural processes, brings forth complex and unique flavor profiles that challenge and delight the palate. José Luttrell attributes their rapid success to a harmonious combination of distinctive terroir, meticulous processing, and community support – elements that The Espresso Lab considers essential in our quest to deliver unparalleled coffee experiences. This shared vision has made our partnership with Abu Coffee particularly rewarding as we together explore the boundaries of what Panama's coffee terroir can express.
