Nestled at the southernmost tip of Honduras, a stone’s throw from El Salvador and Guatemala, lies a testament to the spirit of collaboration and the pursuit of perfection in coffee cultivation. Here, the group known as Cafés Especiales Mercedes Ocotepeque (CAFESMO), comprising over 280 dedicated coffee growers, has woven a narrative of unity and excellence that resonates deeply with us at The Espresso Lab.

Since 2016, when our formal collaboration commenced, we have marveled at the way these passionate individuals, each tending to fincas that range modestly from 2 to 12 hectares, have collectively crafted a robust tapestry of specialty coffee profiles. This accomplishment is no small feat, given the diversity of altitudes and soil types across their farms. Their commitment is further underscored by the FTO certification that each finca proudly holds, a testament to their adherence to the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

The journey of CAFESMO, marked by the exportation of their first container of micro-lots to the United Kingdom in early 2019, is a story of gradual yet significant milestones. This endeavor not only showcased their specialty profiles on the global stage but also solidified their reputation as producers of exquisite coffee, capable of satisfying the palates of the most discerning connoisseurs.

Our collaboration with CAFESMO is grounded in a shared vision: to explore and perfect the varieties that thrive in specific altitudes and soils, and to hone the techniques that bring out the best in these beans.
