Elida Aguacate DRD #324
Tasting notes
Nestled amidst the lush slopes of Baru Volcano in Boquete, Panama, the Lamastus Family Estates represent over a century of coffee-producing heritage. Established in the early 1900s by Robert Lamastus, these renowned farms—El Burro, Luito Geisha, and Elida—are celebrated worldwide for producing exceptional coffees.
Situated at remarkable elevations, including Elida Estate, the highest coffee farm in Panama, these farms benefit from rich volcanic soils and cool, misty rainforest conditions. This unique environment, combined with a commitment to sustainable farming practices, results in coffees of extraordinary clarity and character. Coffee cherries are handpicked with meticulous care by the indigenous Ngobe-Bugle community and processed using methods such as Washed, Natural, and Honey to highlight their distinctive profiles.
Our founder, Ibrahim Al Mallouhi, recently visited Lamastus Family Estates and experienced an exclusive cupping session guided by Wilford Lamastus. During this visit, freshly washed El Burro Geisha lots were explored, including beans undergoing a specialized dark-room drying process designed to enhance flavor complexity by gradually reducing moisture.
A particularly exciting development is the introduction of a unique lot reserved exclusively for The Espresso Lab Roastery. Additionally, an innovative processing method known as “HESSA” has been developed specifically for this collaboration. This experimental approach incorporates cascara (coffee cherry pulp and skin) along with coffee leaves to create an entirely new and expressive flavor profile.
The partnership with Lamastus Family Estates reflects a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship. We look forward to bringing more exceptional coffees from Panama to coffee enthusiasts in the UAE and beyond.
