At The Espresso Lab, we are proud to present Abu Coffee, one of Panama's most celebrated specialty coffee producers. Located in the highlands of Boquete, Chiriquí, Abu Coffee is owned and operated by José Luttrell, whose family has cultivated a legacy of coffee excellence rooted in passion, innovation, and respect for the land.
The estate takes its name from José's grandfather, José Guillermo Luttrell Tedman, affectionately known as "Abu," meaning "grandfather" in Spanish. Situated within the renowned Finca Cañas Verdes, the farm benefits from rich volcanic soils, cool mountain temperatures, and an exceptional microclimate that allows coffee cherries to mature slowly and develop remarkable complexity.
Grown at 1,800 meters above sea level, this Geisha lot reflects Abu Coffee's meticulous approach to cultivation and processing. Using the Natural process, carefully selected cherries are dried with the fruit intact, enhancing sweetness, body, and aromatic intensity while preserving the elegant characteristics that have made Panamanian Geisha world-renowned.
The cup is vibrant and expressive, revealing delicate notes of orange blossom, clementine, and plum. Floral aromatics, refined acidity, and layered fruit sweetness combine to create an elegant and memorable sensory experience that showcases the exceptional quality of Abu Coffee.
The partnership between The Espresso Lab and Abu Coffee reflects a shared commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and origin-driven excellence. Together, we celebrate coffees that honor both the extraordinary terroir of Panama and the dedication of the producers who continue to elevate specialty coffee on the global stage.
